After a great afternoon in Olympia, Washington, we ended at our second official stop on our Pacific Coast Highway road trip, Port Angeles. Port Angeles is a small town at the top of Washington, right across the water from Victoria, Canada.
In non-COVID times, you can take a quick ferry across the water and visit both countries. In the photo here you can barely make out Canada through the fog. It was definitely hard for us to be able to see another country without being able to visit!
We arrived in town shortly before 5 pm, and booked it to Harbinger Winery before they closed. Harbinger is famous as the most northern winery in the entire United States, and we knew we had to make a stop. Unfortunately we got there RIGHT after they called last call, but they were kind enough to let us purchase a few bottles to take with us back to the hotel. Their spot is awesome with a beautiful outdoor patio to taste at!
After grabbing some wine, we headed back into town to check into our hotel, the Port Angeles Inn. We initially wanted to stay at the Red Lion, as it was right on the water and had balconies straight onto the beach, but unfortunately it was 100% booked for the night.
The Port Angeles Inn was still great, and our room still had a balcony with view of the water, the port, and amazing sunsets.
For dinner, we had plans to visit Kokopelli Grill, but unfortunately you needed reservations and they were fully booked for the evening. This was the first stop on our trip that was truly crowded, and it seemed like everyone had decided to hit up the town for the weekend. We ended up going to Port Angeles Crabhouse, which was the restaurant in the Red Lion Motel, and we were NOT at all disappointed.
The food was incredible, and they have a beautiful outdoor patio on the water complete with fire pits and blankets to keep you warm as the sun goes down. We ended up getting the crab sandwich, fish and chips, and some calamari and ate ALL OF IT. They also have a ton of local Washington beers on the menu, and we snagged some of those as well.
We stopped by Angeles Brewing on the way back to our hotel and wanted to grab a beer, but the lines were pretty long and they were out of seating, so we put that on the list for our next trip and turned in for the night after catching some awesome sunset views from our balcony (minus the power lines).
The next morning we woke up early for some coffee outside on the balcony before heading off to our first stop of the day, a hike at Marymere Falls a quick half hour drive away. Be sure to also check out the full PCH itinerary here as well!
