Our final stop for the evening on Day 5 was the city of Eureka, California. We wanted to make it a bit further and stop in Mendocino, but had quite a few stops during the day (all great ones!).
We stayed the night at the Eureka Inn, a very old hotel, that when you walk in, feels like you’ve stepped back in time. The hotel is very elegant, and has a ton of unique touches, like a rotary phone in the bedrooms, and photos of all of the famous people who have stayed in the hotel over the years. Because of COVID the bars and restaurants were closed, but in normal times they have some incredibly cool looking spots for libations!
We went to dinner at the Humboldt Bay Bistro, which may have been one of the best meals of our trip. The restaurant is in an old house, and has a super homey feel. We snagged a table right in the front in a bay window overlooking the water across the street.
The food was incredible. We, per usual, over ordered with a ton of appetizers. Their oysters were the star of the meal – raw with incredible toppings of wasabi on one side and veggies on the other. The escargot was phenomenal, and they brought out more homemade bread for us to use with those and the oysters.
For dinner we had the lobster and the seafood pasta, and both were absolutely incredible. Highly recommend making a stop to eat here!
The next morning we got up early to make our way out and explore more of the coast. Before leaving Eureka, we stopped at Dutch Bros for some delicious coffee. We told the woman we ordered from that we had never been before, and she helped us pick out the best holiday options (pumpkin breve!) and then surprised us by giving one of the coffees to us for free as a first timer!
Now that we had sufficient caffeine, we hit the road for our next destination, Leggett, California to see some more interesting Redwood attractions! Make sure to check out the full Pacific Coast Highway trip itinerary here!
