Since international travel was a no-go for the majority of this year, and we all had to work from home (anywhere), we decided to finally go on a trip I’d been planning for years – driving the entire Pacific Coast Highway from top to bottom.
We drove from Denver to Olympia, Washington where we would officially start the trip. Our first day was a short drive, just 2 hours from Denver, Colorado to Cheyenne, Wyoming.
We arrived and checked into the Fairfield Inn & Suites before heading out to explore some of Cheyenne for the evening.
We started off by walking around the main area of downtown. We strolled over to the Wyoming Capitol Building, which was absolutely beautiful. The city is small, and with COVID, most things were closed.
A lot of cities these days have statues dedicated to different causes around the city. New Orleans for example, has the streetcar, and SF has hearts. In Cheyenne, they had these cool cowboy boots all around the city, and this one in particular was decorated with significant milestones in women’s rights in the state.
We passed by Freedom’s Edge Brewing Company, a cool independent brewery in an old garage with a ton of outdoor and socially distant seating. We stopped in and tried a few of their brews, all of which were absolutely delicious.
After beers, we walked over to our dinner reservation at Wyoming Rib & Chop House. We knew that once we hit the coast we’d be eating seafood for weeks, and decided that we’d get our fill of steaks on the journey to the coast. BOY did this place not disappoint.
The food was incredible, and per usual, we ordered waaaay too much food. Our massive steak for two was served on a hot cast iron, and cut/dressed table side. We told the waitress that we were on day 1 of our month long trip, and they even brought us a creme brûlée dessert for free to celebrate.
We took an uber back to our hotel, and got some rest before our first day of real driving, stopping in Buffalo, Wyoming for lunch, and ending in Bozeman, Montana for our second day and second state of the trip.
Cheyenne is only 2 hours away from Denver, and we definitely plan to go back and explore again soon! Any places we should make sure to add to our list? Let me know in the comments!
