During COVID in 2020, we finally took the plunge and went out on a month long trip to drive the entire Pacific Coast Highway from the top of Washington to the southern tip of California. We drove from our home in Denver, Colorado to the start in Olympia, Washington, and along the way made a few stops to explore the north western US.
On day 3 of our road trip towards the top of the PCH, we left Bozeman, Montana and began making our way towards Spokane, Washington, with a stop in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to break up the drive.
The small slice of Idaho that we drove through was quick, but our first entrance into the Pacific Timezone! We were excited to change our watches to the new timezone we’d be in for the majority of our month long trip.
We visited the Coeur d’Alene, the most famous hotel and resort in the area, located right on the lake. We ate at Dockside seafood restaurant within the resort, and were able to snag a table right next to a window overlooking the beautiful lake on a wonderfully sunny day.
The food was great, our first real seafood of the trip, along with some local Idaho brews.
After lunch, we walked out to the lake, and onto the floating boardwalk. The boardwalk is a HUGE loop complete with a large bridge that gives you incredible views of the entire lake. It’s a must do if you’re stopping in Coeur d’Alene.
We wanted to spend more time exploring the town itself, but had to continue making out way to our final destination in Spokane, Washington. We were overwhelmed by how beautiful the lake was, and can’t wait to come back and spend more time here. Have any tips on things to do next time we’re in town? Let me know in the comments!
